How to help your pet cope with Anxiety and Stress

You may not be aware of this but pets do get depressed. On a daily basis hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are going through depression right now. Pet owners who see their beloved animals in depression might be asking why. When a pet goes through depression pet owners can see their dog or cat get moppey, lethargic and even stop eating. Some pets will only drink a minimal amount of water, stop wanting to play, and even lose drastic amounts of weight.

The question that pet owners might ask is why?

Pets get depressed for many reasons, here are just a few examples:

* The children go off to school
* House is empty during the day and no one to play with or feel left alone
* Grief from a death
* Loss of a play mate
* Chemical imbalance
* Change of scenery

If you see your pet going through any signs of depression you should first consult your vet and have you pet checked out. Ask your self has any of the examples above taken place? Once you think you discovered the cause, you need to determine what to do next. Most of the time your veterinarian will give you suggestions that can help your pet get back to normal.

Below are a few suggestions you can try.

* Medicated therapy like Prozac or another anti-depressant.
* Play dates are a great way to help your dog or cat snap out of a depression. If theres a pet in the neighborhood that you pet gets along with try to schedule routine play dates.
* Try to give your pet plenty of exercise. Go to the park or in the back yard.
* Take you pet hiking is a good moral booster.

* Doggy daycare is a great way to keep your pet active and happy.
* When leaving the house, keep your goodbyes short. Your pet will think you will be gone only a short time.
* Leave a piece of clothing or something else familiar with your pet when you leave the house.
* You can try some natural remedies like PetCalm or PetAlive. Both of these remedies are homeopathic and can give a soothing effect.

These remedies are only few suggestions and I hope they help. Our pets are an intricate part of our lives and when something is wrong with them the whole house gets affected. Just remember being proactive in your pets health is key.
