Why puppies chew
Ever wonder why puppies like to chew. My Golden Retriever chewed on everything under the sun, the couch, my shoes, the baby's bedpost and a lot more. Well you may not be aware of this, but puppy's teeth just like babies do and most puppies teeth up until seven months or so. The relief they receive from chewing satisfies the discomfort they feel from the growing teeth. Of course, after seven months, the teething stops but the chewing does not. Below are a few steps you can take to relieve the teething process and prevent more problems down the road.
The first step is making sure your puppy has plenty of exercise. This is a great way to relieve and occupy your pet.
Next monitor your puppy's activities. As long as you watch them, you can help control their actions.
When you leave the house, confine your puppy to one room with plenty of toy's he can chew on.
Give your puppy old socks, and shoes to play with.
When your pet chews on an item or furniture they shouldn't be chewing on, remove your pet immediate and give them a toy to play with.
Make certain rooms off limits to him.
The above list is not an exhausted list but it's a good starting point. Good training is so important in a pet's life. Be proactive to read books and articles about proper training. If you can afford a good trainer, you should also consider it.
Having a puppy is a great experience, so enjoy while you can.
